Q&A with our Operations Director, Sharon Burgess
What keeps you passionate about your work?
At the heart of it, it’s the people that keep me passionate. Leading teams who care deeply about quality and service, and watching them grow, take ownership, and feel proud of their impact, is hugely motivating.
Delivering a great service isn’t just about getting the mechanics right, it’s about trust, teamwork, and feeling that you’re all working towards something that really matters. That is what energises me every day.
What are the responsibilities you focus on, on a day-to-day basis?
I focus on making sure we deliver well today while building an operation that’s ready for what’s next. Day to day, that means ensuring our services run smoothly, teams are supported, and we consistently deliver against client and commercial expectations.
Alongside this, I spend time stepping back to look at where we need to simplify, scale or adapt our operating model to support growth and improve performance. A big part of my role is turning strategy into something practical, shaping processes, improving how we use data and technology, and making sure the business can grow without adding unnecessary complexity.
What do you enjoy most about working with your team?
What I enjoy most about working with my team is the trust and openness we have with each other. There’s a real sense of shared ownership, people care about doing the right thing and are comfortable being honest, whether that’s challenging an idea or asking for help.
I really value how collaborative and solution‑focused the team is; when things get tough, there’s no blame, just a willingness to roll sleeves up and figure it out together. I also love seeing people grow, building confidence, stretching themselves and stepping into new challenges. And importantly, even on busy days, there’s humour and perspective, which makes a huge difference.
How does your role contribute to the bigger picture at Healix Health?
I focus on making sure we have the right structures and ways of working to deliver consistently today, while also being able to scale and adapt as the business grows. By connecting commercial goals with day to day operations and strengthening how we work across teams, I help people focus on what really adds value and build an operation that’s resilient and future‑ready.
Why did you choose a career in the corporate healthcare industry?
I’ve always been motivated by work that makes a genuine difference to people’s lives, but I’m equally drawn to solving complex problems and building things that work well at scale.
Corporate healthcare allows me to do both, contributing to better health and wellbeing outcomes while applying commercial, operational and strategic thinking to make services sustainable and effective.
I find real satisfaction in knowing that the decisions made behind the scenes, around how we design services, support businesses and enable teams can have a meaningful, positive impact on individuals and organisations.
