Meet the nurses behind our care: Nigel Evans, Medical Case Manager

We spoke to Nigel Evans, one of our Medical Case Managers and a Registered Nurse, about his role, what motivates him, and the difference he makes to members every day.

What motivates you in your role?

"For me, it really comes down to helping people. The members I work with are often dealing with life‑changing diagnoses, and they can suddenly find themselves navigating a healthcare system they’ve never had to deal with before.

Knowing that I can support them through that, explain things clearly, and help make an overwhelming situation feel more manageable is incredibly rewarding. It’s reassuring for them to know someone is there to guide them and advocate for them."

What does your day-to-day role involve?

“My role is all about making sure members receive appropriate care, particularly managing claims for cancer and advising on clinical issues.

When I’m consulted by the wider non-clinical team, that involves reviewing clinical information, coordinating treatment plans, speaking with providers, and keeping members informed about what’s happening next.

A big part of the role is making sure everything runs smoothly, while always keeping the member’s best interests at the centre of decision-making.”

What do you enjoy most about working at Healix Health?

"What I enjoy most is how open and supportive the team is. There’s a real sense of honesty and teamwork and everyone works really well together.

We’re comfortable sharing ideas, asking each other questions, offering support when it’s needed, and that level of cooperation makes a huge difference to the service we’re able to provide to members"

How would you describe your role in supporting members?

"I like to think of my role as being very member-focused. Advocacy has always been a huge part of my nursing background.

I support members through their healthcare journey, helping them to access appropriate high-quality care, and contributing to Healix Health’s goal of providing a trusted, flexible and compassionate service.”

What led you to join Healix Health?

"After a long and rewarding career in the NHS, I was ready for a new challenge but I still wanted to stay rooted in patient care.

Moving into corporate healthcare has allowed me to use my clinical experience in a different way. I’m still advocating for patients and making a meaningful impact, while broadening my perspective in a dynamic environment.

I’m continuing to do what I value most, supporting people when they need it most."
