18.09.2024
10th September 2024
Last week, Healix hosted an exclusive workshop event specifically for media organisations.

On 10 September, we welcomed security and risk professionals from several high-profile media outlets to an exclusive Healix event in London: An intelligence-led approach to supporting media teams in high-risk locations.

Attendees joined us from organisations including the BBC, CNN, The Financial Times, Sky News, ITV and more to discuss a range of topics:

  • Operations Security (OPSEC)
  • The risk assessment process
  • Effective cover stories
  • Cultural understanding
  • Developing, handling and protecting sources
  • Protection against infiltration and navigating bureaucracy
  • Best practices from real-life case studies

Our speakers:

Moderated by David Geddes, our Director of Security Services, we were joined by a panel of experts:

Dr John Lewis – A seasoned UK diplomat and a member of the Healix Risk and Security Advisory Board. Dr John brings extensive experience from a range of geopolitical and operational functions.

Lorna Ward
– Head of Communications and Marketing at Strategia Worldwide. Lorna helps clients build resilience through strategy, risk assessment and war gaming, as well as supporting reputation management, strategic and crisis communications. Lorna is also a former Sky News international editor and reporter.

Luke Westgarth Taylor
- Luke joined Healix in 2020 and oversees the delivery of our risk and resilience consultancy services. He also leads protective details in the field, coordinating large-scale evacuation and crisis response operations.

The event sparked insightful discussions between our panellists and attendees, highlighting the fine balance between storytelling and safety, a constant challenge for media teams in high-risk environments. Our speakers explored the need for both preparation and adaptability in these volatile environments, where being able to reassess and pivot in real-time can make all the difference.
