Opportunity to secure a discount in Mauritius

Background

A 70 year old male patient fell ill in Port Louis, Mauritius with pneumonia with further complications. He was admitted into hospital for 24 days.

Challenge

Identifying negotiation opportunities.

The hospital bill was deemed reasonable however Healix identified there was room for negotiations as hospitals in this region tend to like prompt payments.

Costs were therefore managed from the beginning and negotiation initiated once a final invoice was issued.

Outcome

Cost savings of GBP£3,800 achieved.

An initial 7% discount was negotiated for payment within 30 days. However, we were aware that hospitals in Mauritius prefer for the bills to be consolidated as soon as possible. We therefore used this as a negotiation tactic and agreed with the insurer to make payment within 15 days, in exchange for a larger discount.

The final discounted amount agreed on was 15%, which equated to savings of GBP£3,800.
