New partnership between WRPA, Healix, and Nuffield Health

12.06.2024

Healix Health is excited to unveil a new partnership with The Welsh Rugby Players Association (WRPA) and Nuffield Health, the UK's largest healthcare charity. This collaboration promises significant benefits for the wellbeing of retired and retiring players.

Beginning in mid-June, the Player Transition Programme will help these players prepare for life after rugby, offering comprehensive support to ensure they are ready for new career and personal challenges. Participants will receive physiotherapy and medical care, along with a 12-month membership to Nuffield Health’s 112 fitness and well-being centres, aiding them in maintaining their health and managing any injuries or conditions resulting from their rugby careers.

Supported by Healix, Nuffield Health will serve as the WRPA's Official Healthcare Supplier, providing retired and retiring rugby professionals with top-tier healthcare services in South Wales and access to gym facilities across the UK.

We are delighted to be included in this partnership which sets out to look after rugby players as they move into retirement from the sport. Players put their bodies on the line week in, week out, and it is only right that they can continue to receive the relevant medical care once their playing days are behind them.

Ian Talbot, CEO of Healix Health

With this exciting new partnership, we will now be able to further support the players when they retire from professional rugby. The ability to use top class gym, wellbeing and healthcare facilities, plus having access to medical experts will ensure that the players are fit, healthy and able to achieve their goals in the next stages of their lives.

James King, WRPA Player Welfare & Membership Manager

Collaborating with WRPA and Nuffield Health to establish this partnership has been a major milestone, drawing from my own and my teammates' experiences of retiring from professional rugby. I am confident that this initiative will greatly benefit others going through the same transition, supporting them in the next phase of their lives.

Jonathan Mills, Business Development Manager at Healix Health

Our purpose is to build a healthier nation and we are thrilled that the Welsh Rugby Players Association and Healix are teaming up with our connected health and wellbeing services. We will provide retiring and retired professional players and their families with a range of benefits and access to our services. It’s important to continue to support and give back to sports professionals who have given so much for their country. We look forward to getting to know and look after them.
